Marketing and Advertising Graduate Schools
A variety of accredited universities, business, marketing and advertising graduate schools offer graduate level marketing and advertising degree programs in an on-campus format. Sometimes referred to as ‘residential’ programs, finding a school can be an exciting opportunity to figure out what you want to spend the next few years researching and studying. If you are a seasoned or mid-career professional, you might look for a program that offers you management skills so you can direct advertising or marketing campaigns using current market research, search analytics and digital marketing. Or, you may be initiating a career and looking to refine your ability to build brands using integrated marketing communications. Helping you find a marketing and advertising graduate school is what we are about.
Find Marketing and Advertising Graduate Schools by Program Level
One of the ways to find marketing and advertising graduate schools is to look for marketing and advertising graduate certificates, master’s or doctorate degrees, and some universities offer general programs while others may focus on digital marketing, marketing communication management or marketing analytics. Essentially you want to find the program level and concentration that aligns with your personal and professional goals, although some people do have a location preference and may start with that. Here are a few ways to narrow down your search.
DID YOU KNOW? Advertising, promotions, and marketing managers plan programs to generate interest in products or services. They work with art directors, sales agents, and financial staff members[i].
Marketing and Advertising Courses
Look for marketing and advertising schools with the academics you need, the faculty that could inspire you and the degree that provides the education for a desired career outcome. Whether you aspire to work in an upcoming
field like ‘green marketing’[ii], advertising sales management or marketing and promotions management[iii] a university’s course curriculum can be very informative.
At the graduate level, marketing and advertising degree course topics are likely to vary between programs and schools but could include topics such as:
- Brand strategy
- Marketing analytics
- Strategic communications
- Digital marketing
- Interactive marketing (connect with consumers)
- Content marketing
- Media strategy
- Internship or placement
Find Schools for Masters Marketing & Advertising Degrees
Find marketing and advertising schools specifically for masters degrees. Some masters in marketing and advertising degree programs may be aimed at helping students to potentially launch a marketing communications career, while others may target students with prior industry-related work experience. These may be available in full-time and part-time options, with courses sometimes offered during the evenings or weekends to accommodate students who have other commitments such as job or family. Typical options could include the Master of Business Administration, Master of Arts and Master of Science in Marketing and Advertising. Prospective applicants are required to have an undergraduate degree (in marketing and advertising, business or a related field) and depending on the graduate school, could require one to two years beyond the Bachelor’s degree.
Find Schools for Graduate Certificates in Marketing & Advertising
Don’t have the time for a master’s degree yet? Sometimes graduate certificates in marketing and advertising are shorter, add skills to your resume and keep your options open. If you earn a certificate at an accredited school with a master’s program, you can sometimes transfer your credits towards it later on.
Find schools for Doctorate Marketing & Advertising Degrees
Doctorate programs sometimes pair candidates with a research advisor so being close to your marketing and advertising school could be a plus. Both the Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Business Administration may be offered and these programs tend to attract executives or individuals who may want to conduct technical research or work in academia. Prospective candidates are likely to have to undergo an interview, and have earned a Master’s degree (e.g. MBA or a thesis-oriented Master of Science.)

Accreditation for Marketing and Advertising Graduate Schools
Accreditation at the higher institution level can be awarded to schools who uphold education standards and strive not only to continue to maintain them but also, to improve their standing. There are seven regional accreditation agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. That said, specific programs (for instance, business programs) could have their own accrediting agencies; these tend to vet course curriculum to uphold related industry standards of professionalism. Look for agencies such as, but not limited to, the AACSB[iv] and the ACBSP.[v]
