Program reputation

First and foremost, ensure that any school you are considering is accredited. Schools that are accredited have been evaluated by an outside agency to verify that they meet certain standards of quality and rigor.

In addition to accreditation of schools, degree programs in some disciplines may be accredited as well. For example, ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) that accredits programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technologies.
