Communication Studies Masters Campus Programs
Schools for Masters in Communication Studies offer courses of study that could award either a Master of Arts (MA) or Master of Science (MS) degree. The communication studies major explores the various ways humans communicate - verbal, non-verbal and written. Students could take away an ability to read, write, listen, report, measure, predict and interpret various types of messages and information in an effective way.
Communication Studies Masters Programs
Graduate schools for Masters in Communication Studies offer several different types of programs due to the broad nature of the field. Communication Studies is about how humans interact and interpret messages. Communications, by contrast, is about how these messages are distributed. Both these themes might be discussed in communication studies masters programs, so be on the look-out for the type of program that matches your goals.
Courses and Curricula
Most schools for Masters in Communication Studies start students out with core courses that survey major theories and points of view on the influence of mass media, behavior and social processes. These classes are likely to examine how messages are interpreted in social, political, cultural, corporate or marketing contexts.
Aside from theory, students could study how to apply communication ‘best practices’ and build communication tool-kits with specific techniques. For instance, a course in digital media could provide the modern communicator with ideas on how to create credible websites or effective internet ads.
For students with more interest in technique than theory, some Masters in Communication programs are oriented to media technologies. Here students might delve into marketing, print media, bioethics or public policy.
