PhD Biomedical Engineering
Our jointly offered Biomedical Engineering graduate programs with Marquette University bring together the strong curricular expertise and industry relations of Marquette University with the research infrastructure and clinical partnerships of MCW.
The Biomedical Engineering PhD program provides students with the opportunity to select their area of specialization, which include Bioengineering, Bioinstrumentation, Biomechanics/Biomaterials, Functional Imaging, Rehabilitation Bioengineering, and Systems Physiology. The core curriculum start in the Fall semester, with a doctoral qualifying exam following and a successfully defended dissertation required for graduation.
The Biomedical Engineering MS program provides students with the opportunity to select their area of specialization, which include Bioinstrumentation, Biomechanics/Biomaterials, Rehabilitation Bioengineering, and Systems Physiology. Student will be required to pass a comprehensive exam and submit an approved thesis to qualify for graduation.
The Biomedical Engineering ME program provides students with specializations in Biocomputing, Imaging, Bioinstrumentation, Biomechanics and Rehabilitation Bioengineering. It is a non-thesis program that requires a successfully passed capstone comprehensive exam required for graduation.
The Healthcare Technologies Management MS program was the first of its kind in the nation that provides students with greater professional, technical and managerial skills in healthcare institutions and medical device/equipment professions.
All full-time, degree-seeking PhD students at MCW receive a generous financial aid package, including full tuition remission, a stipend of over $29,000/year, and complimentary health insurance (including vision & dental). Average time to degree completion for all MCW PhD students is 5 ½ years. MCW as an institution has the lowest faculty-to-student ration in the world (0.6 students for every 1 faculty member).
