Washington State University’s Statewide Doctor of Education program is offered with advisors and courses on all of WSU’s four campuses.
This program is designed as a cohort-based program focusing on the theme of “Leadership in Education.” You will become part of a learning community committed to enhancing educational leadership practice to promote the learning of all children in schools.
There are three major specializations within the program: K12 Educational Leadership, Teacher Leadership and Higher Education.
K12 Teacher Leadership: This program specialization is designed for students whose primary interest is leadership practice in K12 schools or related organizations. Participants are part of a learning community dedicated to improving schools and promoting the learning of all children.
Teacher Leadership: This specialization is designed to prepare K16 teachers and teacher leaders for intellectual and practical leadership within classrooms, schools, districts, and the larger educational policy arena.
Higher Education: This specialization is best suited for individuals who hold a master's degree and/or are currently working within an institution of higher education as administrator or in a student affairs capacity. This program serves as an avenue towards promotion or a career change within higher education.
The Statewide Doctor of Education (EdD) program has several unique features designed to serve the needs of education professionals throughout the state:
-Statewide Program Delivery – Participants can access courses and work with advisors through all of WSU’s campuses.
-A Practitioner-Scholar Approach – Content combines the best of both worlds – issues important to practicing school leaders and the scholarship that can help to analyze and address these issues.
-Summer Inquiry Institutes – Participants from around the state attend two 2-week summer institutes on the Pullman campus. These institutes help build a learning community and support network among the statewide cohort.
-Alignment with Certification Programs – Students who have completed the Superintendent program can apply all credits toward the EdD program of study. However, participation in the superintendent program is not a requirement for the EdD program.
The program is sequenced and designed as a 4-year program, although students are allowed to take up to 10 years to complete their degree according to Graduate School policy.
The program is housed in the Department of Educational Leadership, Sports Studies and Educational/Counseling Psychology of the College of Education.
