Program Description:

The applied Clinical concentration offers students a graduate program which may provide an initial academic foundation for employment in a mental health setting, for employment in the Department of Corrections, and further doctoral work in clinical or counseling psychology. Students receive extensive training in diagnosis, intellectual and personality assessment, therapeutic intervention, and research methods. Practical training and supervision in clinical settings is required during the second year of training. Job opportunities for graduates include community mental health centers, substance abuse rehabilitation clinics, correctional facilities and hospitals. Graduates of the program are employed in many different settings. These include mental health clinics, psychiatric hospitals, college counseling centers, teaching at community colleges and universities, prison psychologists, crisis intervention settings, student life positions at colleges, private practice, and sexual abuse treatment centers. The goal of the Experimental Psychology concentration at is to provide students with a solid foundation in the core principles of psychology, as well as with supervised research experience in laboratory research. The program allows students to apply their degree as a terminal masters qualifying them to (a) serve as an instructor at the community or junior college level or to (b) conduct research in applied settings.
