The Hampton University Mathematics Department offers graduate courses leading to the Master of Science degree in Applied Mathematics.
The graduate program in Applied Mathematics prepares the successful candidateto pursue a Ph.D. program or assume immediate employment in business, industry or government. To meet these goals, the program is designed to provide opportunities for advanced study and research on the application of mathematical methods to real-world problems. The primary research interest of the graduate faculty include: stochastic processes, time series analysis, applied statistics, computational fluid dynamics, discrete mathematics, numerical analysis, operator theory, scientific computing, thermonuclear fusion and functional analysis. The major course offerings consist of topics such as numerical analysis, partial differential equations, stochastic processes, non-linear dynamics, and statistics.
Hampton University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award degrees at the associate, baccalaureate, master’s, education specialist and doctorate levels.
