Surgical Assistant, MSA Program
Become a Surgical Assistant and you can enjoy a medical career in surgery within two years. EVMS offers the only accredited Surgical Assistant program that does not require individuals to be trained as a surgical tech and is the only pathway for individuals with a four year degree or higher with no medical training to enter the Surgical Assistant medical profession. Due to the current and rapid shortage of General Surgeons in communities across the U.S., there is a growing need to have highly educated, trained and skilled medical professionals assisting in surgery. As a result of the demand in the medical field for Surgical Assistants, EVMS has expanded the class size to 24 new students. Students enrolled in the 70-credit-hour Surgical Assistant, MSA Program will complete 36 credits of didactic training and 34 credits during the clinical year. We invite you to visit our program’s website to learn more about our training program and apply to reserve your student seat in the new class that starts in August. Applications will be accepted between October 1 and April 1. We encourage you to contact us regarding any questions you may have about our program and the Surgical Assistant profession. You can earn a Master's degree in Surgical Assisting and be certified in just 22 months.
The EVMS Surgical Assistant Program is accredited by CAAHEP.
