Program Description:

The History Department offers courses leading to the Master of Arts in History and the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in History. Our graduate faculty has expertise in a variety of geographical and thematic areas. Students pursuing the MA in History may focus on one of several specializations that include American History, Borderlands History, World (Middle East, Asia, and Europe), Atlantic World, Race & Ethnicity, Women & Gender, Labor, Latin America, Religion and Military for History. The time to degree for both programs is approximately 2-3 years and you can choose between a 30 credit hour Thesis Option or a 36 credit hour Non-Thesis option.


The University of Texas-Pan American is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate, masters', and doctorate degrees.

International Student Requirements:

Test of English as Foreign language (TOEFL) - A minimum score of 500 (173 for computer based test) is required for all international students from countries whose native language is not English. Test scores must be sent directly to the University of Texas-Pan American from the Testing Agency. Copies of TOEFL scores sent by the applicant are not acceptable.
