University of Texas At Dallas
The School of Arts and Humanities
The program provides students with a flexible, interdisciplinary context within which to pursue their studies, built on connections among specific courses and areas of interest. Each student plans an individual program of studies in consultation with an assigned advisor. All students are required to take HIST 6301: Historiography within their first year of enrollment. Students seeking the MA in History have two options, a professional option and a research option. The professional option requires 36 hours of organized course-work. The research option requires 30 hours of coursework, and six hours of thesis work. In addition to the coursework, students demonstrate reading proficiency in an approved foreign language, and successfully complete and defend a master’s thesis.
Within the Graduate Program in History, most courses are offered within History (HIST) and History of Ideas (HUHI), but students must also take one course in Aesthetic Studies (HUAS) or Studies in Literature (HUSL).
