During the 2016-2017 school year, 83 students graduated from Texas A&M with a Master of Science in Economics with a concentration in Econometrics. This made the program one of the school’s more popular ones. Within the economics program, students earn a Master of Science in Economics and can choose between two concentrations: Financial Economics or Financial Econometrics. Completing the program requires 36 credit hours and passing a Capstone project. To earn their credits, students will take course in:
  • Core areas of economics: microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, and econometrics (economic analytics and forecasting)
  • Elective areas of economics: in areas such as financial markets, economics of multinational firms, risk and uncertainty, mathematical economics, statistics, and others.
At least 24 of the required 36 credit hours must be earned through the economics department. The remaining can be earned through other departments, so long as the courses are pre-approved. For the Capstone project, students research, write, and defend a thesis and take a written or oral exam.
