Program Description:

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University offers an opportunity for graduate students to participate in ground-breaking research in Sensing and Imaging, Optics, Biomechanics, and Biomaterials. Our outstanding faculty have strong collaborations with both medical and veterinary schools, as well as various other departments throughout the university and around the world. Our Department is in a time of growth as we have more than doubled our core faculty from 7 in 2001 to 17 in 2010. In 2011, we moved into the new Emerging Technologies Building. With more than 212,000 square feet, the building houses our students, staff and faculty and affords the opportunity to experience state-of- the art facilities, including new classrooms, labs, and office space. The thrust of the biomedical engineering graduate program is in the areas of biomedical sensing and imaging, biomedical optics, cardiovascular biomechanics and mechanobiology, and biomaterials. These concepts are applied and studied at whole body, tissue, cellular and molecular levels. Faculty members are presently involved in research from the macroscopic to the nanoscale in the areas of diagnostic and therapeutic systems, emaging systems, soft and hard tissue biomechanics, tissue characterizations, biomaterials used in the human body, orthopedic biomechanics, FDA regulatory practices, bioinstrumentation, measurement and analysis of human body signals, and analysis of the interaction between humans and medical devices. Information regarding these programs can be found on our website. You are also welcome to email the Graduate Advisor at maria.pate@tamu.edu with specific questions or for more information.
