The Graduate Program in Immunology provides training and mentoring necessary for students to earn a Ph.D. in the biomedical sciences. Our students conduct cutting-edge research, build their publication record, and learn the arts of effective public presentation and scientific writing. At home in the largest medical center in the world, our students are expected to become experts in their own research area, but competently conversant in all areas of immunological research including molecular and translational approaches to biomedical science.
Immunology remains one of the distinct disciplines of biology with a unique vocabulary. Research problems in immunology are also unique within the biomedical disciplines dealing with fundamental issues concerning self vs. non-self discrimination, tolerance, acquired and innate mechanisms of immunological memory, and the interaction between host and microbial commensals/pathogens.
