Program Information

Degrees Offered:

Chinese Herbal Medicine Certificate

Format: Campus

Program Description:

Designed for both current acupuncture students as well as licensed acupuncturists, our Chinese Herbal Medicine Certificate program is flexible enough to fit into anyone’s schedule. Held four days per month, our two-year program prepares students to sit for the NCCAOM Chinese Herbology Certification Examination under Route 5: Conversion from Acupuncture and/or Chinese Herbology Certification to Oriental Medicine, which as stated in the title is available to a Diplomate of Acupuncture (NCCAOM)® in active status. In order to be eligible to sit for the board exams, students must achieve diplomate status in acupuncture prior to completing the Chinese Herbal Medicine Certificate program. In this program, students learn the use of over 400 herbs and how to mix more than 340 common herbal formulas. We also focus on a variety of topics around the application of herbology including Shang Han Lun, Wen Bing and Jin-Yuan masters theory, material medica, and advanced treatment topics for gynecology, fertility, pediatrics, neurology, and oncology. Our students spend the final 14 months of our program treating patients in our Chinese Herbal Medicine Student Clinic. Patient treatments include a combination of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, which is packaged in our new herbal dispensary. The combination of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine allows students to develop a deep understanding of how the two branches can be used to support one another and treat patients more effectively. This combination helps students to perfect their diagnostic and technical skills and strengthen their understanding of Chinese herbal medicine.
