Program Description:

Offered in conjunction with Villanova University’s Summer Music Studies Program, this summer-only program focuses on providing an advanced study of music teaching and pedagogy leading to a higher level of music skill and professional preparation for those already certified to teach. Core classes examine music and music education through the perspective of history, psychology, sociology and philosophy, while an elective component of the coursework allows students the flexibility to pursue knowledge directly related to their educational need and interests. The MM in Music Education is a 33-credit degree-granting program with classes offered in summers ONLY at Villanova University in conjunction with the Summer Music Studies program. The degree can be completed in as few as three or four summers, but must be completed within seven years of matriculation. The curriculum consists of 12 credits of foundational Core Courses, 15 credits of elective Content Coursework, and a graduate project/thesis worth six credits. This program is designed for teachers who currently hold certification and therefore does not lead to Pennsylvania Department of Education Teacher Certification.
