Program Description:

The MEd in Middle Grades Education trains graduate students to guide learners through grades 4 through 8 and prepare them for the demands of high school. Certification prepares graduates to teach in both upper elementary and middle grades classrooms. Students graduate with a solid foundation in learning and teaching and a strong commitment to serving pre-adolescent learners from diverse economic, ethnic and geographic backgrounds. This program focuses on building deep, content-specific pedagogical knowledge aligned to the wide-ranging academic standards and developmental needs of middle grades students. While becoming certified to teach all upper-elementary subjects (grades 4 to 6), students concurrently pursue single or dual-certification for grades 7 and 8 in one of the following concentrations: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts and Mathematics, Language Arts and Science, Mathematics and Science 

Accreditation:

Prepares students to apply for certification with the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Eligibility Requirements:

Students must submit an application, official undergraduate and/or graduate transcripts, two letters of recommendation, resume, statement of goals and official Praxis II scores

International Student Requirements:

Official document that validates completion and conferral of a degree, diploma, or certificate. Official international transcripts must be mailed. While not required, applicants are encouraged to submit transcripts to World Education Services (WES) for evaluation. Official TOEFL or IELTS exam scores required.
