M.S.; M.Eng., Ph.D.
Penn State's industrial engineering graduate program, ranked in the top five in the country by U.S. News & World Report, is among the best in the world. Our program is known internationally for our innovative approaches to—and proven excellence in—teaching and research in all areas of industrial engineering.
Graduate study and research are conducted in manufacturing process, information engineering, operations research-management science, production engineering, process design, systems engineering, human factors, ergonomics, quality engineering, and robotics.
Penn State IE graduate students work and study in world-class facilities. Our new $12 million building devotes more than 25,000 square feet of space to laboratory-related activities, including a working 10,000 square-foot integrated high-bay manufacturing facility. On a per-student basis, Penn State provides more student education laboratory space than any other IE graduate program in the United States. In addition to office and laboratory space, graduate students also have their own on-site study lounge with kitchen facilities and a roof-top garden.
Our department has 25 full-time professors who are some of the top people in their fields and are accessible and generous in their support of graduate students. Our faculty have been the recipients of numerous national awards and honors for their outstanding research, papers, teaching, and advising.
Generous financial support is available for graduate studies. Approximately 60% of our Ph.D. students receive financial aid, which includes tuition expenses as well as a stipend for a minimum of three years. Additional support in the form of a fellowship is also possible.
