Jefferson is a private, not-for profit university that reflects the July 2017 decision of Philadelphia University and Thomas Jefferson University to join together. The name for the combined institution is Thomas Jefferson University and is referred to as Jefferson in common usage – Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University).
As the fifth largest institution in the city of Philadelphia, the ‘new Jefferson’ builds on the strengths of its two components. Philadelphia University had built a reputation in its 133 years for design, architecture, textiles, engineering, fashion and business. Thomas Jefferson University, in its nearly 200 years, was known for its robust programs in health sciences, research and clinical care.

As a new venture, the Jefferson (TJU and PHILAU) vision is to provide “transdisciplinary, experiential professional education, research and discovery.
At Jefferson, start dates vary by program, and admissions may be on a rolling basis. That stated, each of the schools have their own application process. Also, individual programs within these schools typically have their own requirements and deadlines to be ready for.
As an example, Jefferson College of Biomedical Sciences (JCBS) application, TJAPP, is managed through a central application service which collects all of the application materials and fee. The school also recommends that students apply to one program at a time, and admission counselors are available to help in this decision.
