Program Description:

This program is perfect for the student who loves English, but doesn’t quite know what it might mean to be a professional in the field. A review of Master’s programs in English in the mid-Atlantic region reveals no other blended program in composition and literature, making this a unique experience. Specifically, the program prepares students equally well in both composition and literature, the two primary subfields of the English discipline. The M.A. in English is designed for students who wish to combine coursework in composition and literary studies in order to pursue teaching at the community-college level or to prepare for advanced doctoral work. The curriculum features a unique focus on pedagogies of writing and literature to prepare graduates to meet the demands of the contemporary job market.
