Master of Science in Sport and Performance Psychology
Using positive and applied sport psychology, our program is designed to help students develop the mental essentials to enhance performance and increase human potential. The degree is a total of 54 quarter-credits (equivalent to 36 semester hours) consisting of 8 core courses and multiple elective options to complete the degree. This allows our students to select coursework to meet their individual job and certification needs. Our curriculum is designed specifically to help students complete the specialized coursework requirements to become a certified sport psychology consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (CC-AASP).
EXTENSIVE APPLIED SPORT PSYCHOLOGY CURRICULUM
The UWS-SPP program focuses extensively on the science and practice of sport and performance psychology. More than covering the basic principles, our professors and curriculum teach you how to apply the skills you learn hands on. Unlike other programs who simply add sport psychology to existing curriculums, we have built our entire program from the ground up to teach you the theory and application of applied sport and performance psychology. Nationally and internationally, we offer the most comprehensive sport and performance psychology curriculum available!
FLEXIBLE AND PERSONALIZED ELECTIVE COURSEWORK OPTIONS
Our program offers you more flexibility and elective choices than nearly all other programs! This allows our students to select coursework to meet their individual job and certification needs. As a result, you get to pick courses that are most interesting and relevant to your career.
EXPERIENCED SPORT AND PERFORMANCE PSYCHOLOGY FACULTY
In order to give you the cutting edge information and contacts in the field, our program is led by faculty who are Certified Consultants for the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (CC-AASP) and recognized members of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) Sport Psychology Registry. Here you will learn from professors and business leaders who have experience practicing sport and performance psychology on a daily basis. The blend of our core and adjunct faculty give students a diverse perspective on the how’s, why’s, and where’s of sport and performance psychology practice from top professors around the world. A key strength of the UWS program is attracting multiple faculty practitioners with applied experience – most programs only have one faculty member with practical experience and CC-AASP certification.
DIVERSE AND ELITE PRACTICUM OPPORTUNITIES
Beyond the classroom, this program provides opportunities for students to apply their skills in the “real world” of sport and performance psychology. The practicum opportunities are numerous and diverse. In addition to established practicum sites, students are also encouraged to create their own practicum to meet their particular interests. Examples of practicum sites include, but are not limited to: opportunities with professional athletic teams, private sport institutes, collegiate athletic departments from around the country, private high school academies, institutes of music, and placements with local exercise and health related industries.
