Program Description:

In the online Master of Science or Post-Master's Certificate - Advanced Public Health Nurse Track, you will: -Become educated in nursing, social, and public health sciences. -Understand the population-focused care of vulnerable populations in rural areas. -Possess advanced skills and knowledge for leadership positions. As a graduate of the programs, you will be able to: -Integrate theories, research, and experiential knowledge into APHN practice with vulnerable rural populations. -Demonstrate advanced practice skills consistent with American Nurses Association’s Scope and Standards of Practice for Public Health Nursing. -Assume the roles and behaviors of an APHN specialist in direct client care, nurses and nursing practice, and organizations/systems. -Use research to effectively improve the care of populations, consistent with the role of a clinical nurse specialist. -Effect change in public health nursing using leadership, management, and teaching strategies. -Collaborate with other disciplines and partner with communities to improve healthcare and to influence health policy for vulnerable rural populations. -Contribute to the development of public health nursing policy, nursing practice, and the profession. After successful completion of your program, you will be eligible to complete the national American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification exam for an Advanced Public Health Nurse. These full- or part-time programs are designed for nurses with a bachelor's degree (master's for certificate) who are unable to attend traditional, on-campus classes. You will participate in most class activities at the time and place of your choice. You will be required to visit the UND campus in Grand Forks, ND, ONCE during the first year of your program. The on-campus component is meant to integrate, extend, and apply the knowledge you learned in previous online courses and readings. A local clinical practicum will also be completed in or near your home community. Pay in-state tuition rates for online courses regardless of where you live. Compared to paying the out-of-state tuition rate, this can translate into big savings for you!
