Program Description:

The Inclusion Education Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study is a 15-credit online program for educators, both teachers and administrators, who wish to have more background with respect to inclusion practices and concerns. This unique concentration explores methods and strategies for teaching all students in inclusion settings, with a special course on the range and use of assistive technologies. Furthermore, participants will review formal and informal procedures for assessing special needs students and utilizing the results to inform and plan instruction. Finally, the concentration teaches the ability to apply special education law to different settings and includes a practicum to integrate inclusive education learning. The CAGS program provides a flexible option for educators who wish to remain in their classrooms, so that they can immediately apply the new strategies and assessments to their students’ lessons and gauge the effectiveness. This program does not lead to a special education certification.

The University of New England is regionally accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (NEASC CIHE). NEASC is the nation’s oldest regional accrediting association whose mission is the establishment and maintenance of high levels of education, from pre-kindergarten through the higher education doctoral level. Accreditation is the review of the quality of educational institutions and programs. In the United States, accreditation is a major way that the public knows that an institution or program provides a high quality education.

Students must have a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution; a valid license or certificate to teach and a minimum of one year teaching experience; currently be employed as a teacher or have access to a classroom on a regular basis.
