Program Description:

The University of Louisville offers a Graduate Certificate in Autism and Applied Behavior Analysis (AABA). Online and face-to-face course options provide practitioners with advanced knowledge in autism research and behavioral analysis approaches to skill development and the treatment of challenging behavior in children with autism.

Autism is a complex disorder that creates a wide spectrum of communication and social-interaction impediments. The reported increase in the number of children with autism (1.47% nationwide) suggests a growing demand for qualified professionals who specialize in autism. Also, the job outlook for the next decade indicates a substantial growth in the availability of positions for behavior analysts.

The autism certificate is a post-baccalaureate program that requires applicants to have a bachelor’s degree previously earned from a regionally institution of higher education and professional certification/license/other qualified experience in a field related to autism (e.g., special education, psychology, speech language pathology, occupational therapy, or social work).

The autism certificate program curriculum prepares students to acquire skills and expertise in assessment and analysis of behavior, communication and development. Upon completion of this program, graduates may evaluate, develop and apply educational programs, communication methods, and treatment or therapy strategies, to improve children’s ability to interact and communicate in various social environments.

Professionals with a Certificate in Autism and Applied Behavior Analysis may qualify for career advancements in teaching, consulting, social work, speech pathology, play therapy, teaching or healthcare.
