Program Information

Degrees Offered:

English as a Second Language (P-12)

Format: Online

Program Description:

The 100% online English as a Second Language Endorsement (P-12) at the University of Louisville is designed mainly for Kentucky certified teachers who want to acquire the expertise and credentials to meet the changing needs of non-native English speaking students.

The ESL Endorsement (P-12) is a 12 credit hour program offered 100% online that may be completed as part of the Master of Education in Teacher Leadership or the Rank I program (30 credit hour program for Kentucky teachers only).

Candidates in our ESL program learn about language, sociolinguistics, cross-cultural competency, cultural diversity, language acquisition and the importance of making the connection between linguistic theory and classroom application.

All applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and a valid teacher certification to be eligible for enrollment in the ESL (P-12) program. Practicum (30hrs) is required for successful graduation.

In order to add the P-12 ESL Endorsement to your teaching license, you have to pass a Praxis test. To select the correct Praxis test for Kentucky, access the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) Praxis Test website.
