Program Description:

This 30-credit degree program is designed for certified teachers who wish to strengthen their experience in studio art and pedagogy in education and cannot relocate to pursue their graduate degree. The Master of Arts in Teaching (Art) online degree program allows you to complete all degree requirements online with the option of a portion of work done at another university near your place of residence. At the heart of this unique program is our commitment to provide you with personal and individualized advising. Most students in the on-line MAT program will be registered part-time while they are teaching in their full time job. You may choose to take 3-9 credits each semester. Of the 30 credits required to complete the degree, at least 6 must be in education courses and at least 20 credits must be earned in art. The MAT is technically a non-thesis degree and requires a comprehensive written and/or verbal examination. Students meet this requirement through a written paper, exhibition and verbal defense. Up to 10 credits may be transferred from another university. The following courses are required for the MAT degree: Art 570: Internet Portfolio Development (3 credits) Art 508: Readings in Art (3 credits) Art 511:Readings in Art Education (3 credits) A minimum of 6 credits in 500 level art studio courses. Students may choose from the following: Art 504: Special Topics Art 507: Art Seminar (3 credits) Art 521: MFA/MAT Individual critique (6 credits limit) Art 520: Studio workshops work with art faculty or guest artist (6 credit limit) Art 598: Internship credit for work with a professional artist (6 credit limit) 300 and 400 level studio art courses may also be included on the study plan 6 credits in 500 level education courses
