Southern New Hampshire University is a private, nonprofit, accredited institution. The school was founded in 1932, by H.A.B. Shapiro as the New Hampshire School of Accounting and Secretarial Science. Since then, a wave of expansion has taken place that includes two regional centers in Manchester, NH and Brunswick, ME.

Aside from the three main schools, the School of Business, the School of Education, and the School of Arts and Sciences, SNHU offers online graduate programs. Graduate Admission Requirements

Southern New Hampshire University welcomes graduate applications from students who have earned a bachelor’s degree or equivalent. A resume is also required for most graduate programs. Aside from this material, there may be program-specific requisites. International students may need to fulfill extra requisites and provide TOEFL scores. All students can use the electronic forms to complete their application.

Program Model: 24/7 Access

Southern New Hampshire University offers online degree and certificate programs with 24/7 access to the online classroom. They also provide 24-hour tech support via phone, online form and live chat.


Online classes at SNHU chiefly take place on Blackboard, a web-based content hosting platform that links students with their classmates, instructors and the course materials in a variety of forms. Instructional webinars to introduce Blackboard and how you will use it on a day-to-day basis are available periodically.


Many SNHU courses require some level of interaction on a discussion board within Blackboard. Discussion board activity is the online equivalent of participation in a traditional classroom. In general, courses require students to respond to a discussion board post from the instructor by Thursday and to respond to two comments from classmates by Sunday.

Student Support Services

Southern New Hampshire University offers several resources for graduate students. To begin with, students have access to a full service career development team. SNHU Career offers personal career counseling, webinars, materials and weekly postings from SNHU Recruit, the employment database. Students are also supported with an academic advisor who serves as a central go-to person. Just as online students have access to their regional campus, campus students also have access to online resources. Some of these include: Online Library, Online Writing Center, Smarthinking Tutoring Services, Disability Resource Center, Wellness, Online Bookstore, and Online Student Union (SNHUconnect).

Services and Programs for Service Members and Veterans

As GI Jobs Military Friendly® School 2009-2017, SNHU may provide tuition savings of up to 30 percent to qualified active-duty service members and their spouses. They also may accept up to 90 credits toward undergraduate degrees and give credit for military training for eligible students. In addition, Southern New Hampshire University accepts Tuition Assistance (TA)the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944 and Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008 benefits. SNHU Academics and Degree Programs

SNHU offers more than 40 graduate degree programs in business, education and liberal arts. As several of these are offered on weekends, many busy adults turn to SNHU for an online masters degree with no GMAT and GRE requirements.
