Program Description:

Designed for classroom teachers, the College of Education offers a Master of Education degree in Reading Education. While in this program, students will develop collegial relationships with other Christ-minded educators as they advance their knowledge of literacy. This course of study prepares teachers for certification in reading education in order to advance their educational career in K-12 public/private schools as well as private reading clinics. Online courses include instruction in foundational methods of teaching reading, reading assessments, (screening, monitoring, and diagnosis), instruction and intervention, reading and learning in the content areas, management of reading programs, and best practices in teaching language arts. The Master of Education in Reading Education program requires a minimum of 36 credit hours beyond the bachelor’s degree, including 9 credit hours of core courses, 21 credit hours of specialization courses, and 6 elective credit hours. The M.Ed. in reading education prepares Florida teachers to take the Reading K-12 Subject Area Exam of the Florida Teacher Certification Examination.
