Program Description:

The mission of the doctoral program in education at Southeastern University is to prepare highly qualified educators, researchers, life-long learners, and servant leaders who share a Christian world view to positively impact education, business, government, and ministry. This program is a 66 credit program of study designed to advance the knowledge, skills, and dispositions of professionals in K12 schools and higher education as well as to advance the ability of its graduates to assume critical leadership roles in education and research. The coursework consists of 8 courses in the doctoral core, 4 courses in the research core, 6 courses in a specialization core, and the dissertation [minimum of 12 credits], for a total of 66 credits. The coursework is rigorous, graduate level work that will prepare candidates for a lifetime of service in the field and to influence public policy through research evidence. The program employs an interdisciplinary design, utilizing faculty from each of the colleges at the university, depending on their expertise. All students take the doctoral, research, and dissertation core classes. Currently, four concentrations/specializations are offered: Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership in K-12 Public Schools, Educational Leadership in Christian Schools, and Organizational Leadership. Future concentrations include higher education, research and evaluation, reading education, ESE, TESOL, and human resources.
