Program Description:

The School of Mines developed this flexible and affordable master's program so that you can continue to work while advancing your career and keeping your knowledge up-to-date in this rapidly changing field. The program offers you access to the School of Mines' top notch engineering faculty and first-class curricula. In addition, you will be part of a student cohort that includes working professionals from across the US. This program reflects a collaborative effort between the construction industry and the university with the intention to meet a growing need in the construction industry for technical professionals with management and applied research skills. The interdisciplinary curriculum includes management-oriented courses and technical electives that allow the student's program of study to reflect individual interests and career goals. The courses and sequence of the MSCM program are designed so that students can enter the program at any one of the three semesters during the year. Courses typically meet one evening per week and cover the core topics in construction management. Core Topics Construction contracts: social, economic, and legal aspects of contracts Construction project management: estimating, scheduling, and project control Advanced construction management: lean construction, productivity, and process improvement Construction equipment management: equipment cost and productivity Construction company management: financial management, strategic planning, business development, human resources management, information management, quality management, and risk management Construction operations: safety, construction engineering and management Sustainable construction: managing sustainable projects, LEED, sustainable infrastructure Electives Safety management Quality management Business strategy Ethics and professionalism Innovation and commercialization Engineering economics Ergonomics Engineering management and labor relations

International Student Requirements:

• Third party foreign transcript evaluation for all foreign institutions attended, including evidence of your bachelor’s degree if applicable. Effective August 15, 2012, SDSM&T requires a course-by-course evaluation report sent directly to us from the evaluating institution. We will only accept evaluation reports from Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (ECE) or World Education Services (WES). If you use ECE, order a catalog match report. If you use WES, order a course by course report. • Evidence of English proficiency, with the exception of applicants from countries where English is the native language. Applicants who have a prior degree from a university in the U.S. may be considered for exemption. Note that Engineering Management will only consider applications meeting the upper level score criteria.
