Master of Medical Science
The MMS program is a distance education program available to physician assistant students enrolled at one of our affiliated schools. This opportunity is offered in conjunction with the last year of the student's physician assistant studies and allows qualified candidates to complete this 30-credit graduate program in just over one year and to graduate with their MMS degree upon successful completion of their PA training.
Affiliated institutions include:
1). Anne Arundel Community College
2). Red Rocks Community College
3). John H. Stronger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County/Malcolm X College
4). San Joaquin Valley College
5). Riverside Community College
6). Primary Care Associate Program, Stanford School of Medicine.
(PA Program Administrators: Contact Deborah Budash, MA, OTR/L, Director of the MMS Program, if you are an accredited PA program and wish to pursue a collaborative agreement with Saint Francis University to provide your students with a means to obtain a MMS degree concurrently with their PA training.)
All students are required to complete 10 credits of online coursework that includes research methodologies, advanced pharmacology, and clinical residency project. Twenty credits from the student's Physician Assistant clinical year are accepted into the MMS program. For this to occur, students must complete their PA program and several clinical simulations which constitute the Primary core requirement. These case studies require students to demonstrate clinical reasoning skills.
Saint Francis University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
International Student Requirements:
International students must send their transcripts to an international agency where the transcripts will be converted to the American academic scale. We recommend World Education Services, 1-800-937-3897. In addition to meeting the requirements for admission, international students must submit satisfactory scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (T.O.E.F.L.), administered by the Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey. Applicants whose native language is English are exempt from this requirement. International students should apply for admissions and the required testing well in advance in order to ensure evaluation of their credentials in a time frame which is equitable to themselves and the admissions committee.
