Master of Arts in Counseling

Format: Online

Program Description:

The field of counseling grows every year, creating more opportunities for clinical mental health counselors to help those in need of effective counseling services. Counseling@Northwestern is the latest innovation in online learning from The Family Institute at Northwestern University, which offers one of the most prestigious Master of Arts in Counseling degrees in the United States. Through Counseling@Northwestern, students across the country attend live, weekly online classes taught by Northwestern faculty. Students also work face-to-face on the platform with seasoned practitioners, or “preceptors,” steeped in a psychodynamic perspective to increase students’ self-reflective capacities as therapists. Two years of clinical field experience complement the academic component and include an immersive “learning-by-doing” model through individual supervision by licensed counselors at field sites.

Counseling@Northwestern’s traditional counseling foundation nurtures clinical proficiency and self-reflection in graduates, whose fully developed skills enable them to provide counseling services rooted in multicultural competency.
