Master of Science in Nutrition and Integrative Health
Maryland University of Integrative Health's online Master of Science in Nutrition and Integrative Health offers an innovative approach to the study of nutrition. The program emphasizes the vital and interrelated physiological, environmental, socio-cultural, and spiritual roles of food in our lives. Graduates of this program will be uniquely positioned to fill the growing demand for nutritionists and nutrition educators.
The program offers a solid grounding in nutritional sciences, nutrition education, and nutrition as it is applied in clinical and public health settings. It addresses the cognitive and physiological factors influencing the complex role of food and nutrition in human health.
The program also offers a rich personal learning process that enables you to cultivate sustainable change in yourself and others. You will learn to understand biochemical assessment, apply nutrition theory through cooking labs, facilitate behavioral change through practice coaching sessions, and use case studies to understand how to address a wide range of health challenges.
This program may be completed entirely online. Online students are also welcome to complete coursework on campus in Laurel, MD.
You will enhance the scope of your skills by selecting one of the following areas of concentration:
Human Clinical Nutrition
This concentration is ideal for students who primarily plan to see clients in a private nutrition practice or join a medical or integrative health setting. The curriculum follows the course of study of MUIH’s original Master of Science in Integrative Health, and provides experiential training in a clinical setting.
Community Nutrition Education
This concentration is ideal for students who want to develop innovative nutrition education programs for underserved communities or other groups who could benefit from grocery store tours, farm to school programs, or nutrition seminars. The curriculum will provide experiential training in a community setting, and give graduates the skills to do a health assessment for a specific population, create nutrition education interventions or programs, and evaluate their effectiveness.
This concentration is ideal for students interested in pursuing the natural and complementary combination of nutrition and herbs. After completing the program, which includes experiential training in a clinical setting or through research, graduates will be able to counsel their clients from a strong foundation in both whole foods nutrition and herbs on how to best combine supplements, dietary interventions, and herbal products.
