Master of Science in Nursing - Nursing and Healthcare Administration

Program Description:

The American healthcare system is in the midst of significant change. The traditional models of care are evolving due to financial and societal factors.  The competing challenges of cost, quality and satisfaction have created a unique opportunity for leaders in a healthcare industry that is poised for market disruption.  This metamorphosis will be led by a new generation of leaders who are prepared to address the triple aim requirements of improving the health of populations, while reducing the cost of care and improving the patient’s experience.

Successful development and execution of new models of care delivery will require nurse leaders who have the educational foundation that prepares them to understand and navigate these challenges. Loyola’s Nursing and Healthcare Administration MSN is specifically designed to prepare the nurse leader of the future. The program’s strength begins with our foundation of core courses rooted in the ethics, theory, policy and research embedded in the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing (MNSON). The program builds upon that foundation through our specialty courses that address the identified needs of an evolving healthcare marketplace. Faculty with extensive experience in leading healthcare organizations will enhance the translational learning experience from classroom to the work environment.

Additionally, the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing's extensive relationships with health-care providers and organizations offers our students a myriad of career and internship opportunities.

There is no better time to advance your career. The health-care industry is the nation’s second-largest employer, and the Chicago-area market in particular holds tremendous employment potential for health systems management graduates.  It is estimated that by 2020 there will be over 60,000 nurse leader vacancies in the United States.

Nursing and Health Care Administration Careers

Chicagoland provides extensive career and internship opportunities because it is home to five academic medical centers, two of the nation’s largest health systems, health-care equipment manufacturers, software companies, numerous community-based health-care systems, large physician group practices, long-term care facilities, assisted-living and home-care services.

Large insurance companies and health-care associations, such as the American Medical Association and the American Hospital Association, are also located in Chicago.

After graduation, students will find positions in settings such as acute and ambulatory health-care organizations, healthcare manufacturing, pharmaceutical companies, health-care service companies, associations, purchasing organizations, consulting firms and insurance companies, as well nursing homes, assisted-living facilities and other providers.

Typical positions include front line and executive leadership in nursing and along service lines, project management, and quality assurance. In addition, students who complete this program have solid preparation for further education at the graduate level.
