MSPY - Applied Behavior Analysis
The rise in children being diagnosed with autism is expected to increase the need for skilled professionals who understand the needs of autistic children.* Professionals in this area utilize behavioral concepts and theories, and develop assessment and intervention skills.† Pursuing the applied behavior analysis concentration could help you on your way to becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA®). The Behavior Analyst Certification Board®, Inc., (BACB®) has approved the course sequence of the Master of Science in Psychology’s applied behavior analysis concentration as meeting the coursework requirements for eligibility to take the Board Certified Behavior Analyst Examination.‡ Students interested in getting a head start on the field experience hours required to sit for the BCBA Examination can elect to complete a practicum as part of the applied behavior analysis concentration.

†Kaplan University cannot guarantee employment or career advancement. Additional training or certification may be required. The professional practice of psychology is regulated by each state, and the degree requirements in this program do not prepare graduates for state licensure. It is important to note that, while earning a master’s degree in psychology may qualify you to work in the helping professions, a doctorate degree is required to become a psychologist and a medical degree is required to become a psychiatrist. Licensure exams may also be required. Students should research the requirements in the state in which they intend to seek employment.
‡The BACB preapproves university training as meeting its eligibility requirements; it does not accredit university programs. To become certified, students will need to obtain the necessary number of hours of field experience under an appropriate supervisor, as required by the BACB, meet additional degree and practicum requirements, and must also pass the comprehensive exam. Refer to the BACB’s website (www.bacb.com/) for full eligibility requirements.
