Doctor of Midwifery
The first-ever professional Doctor of Midwifery from the Midwifery Institute at Thomas Jefferson University is designed to develop leadership skills for mid-career midwives. Students will advance clinical practice, education, policy or administration by applying results of current research.
The fully online program seeks to bring midwives to the forefront of women’s and newborn health. The Midwifery Institute at Thomas Jefferson University has established this first discipline-specific doctoral program to prepare for the trend of increased education requirements, ensuring midwifery expertise and leadership.
During the program, students will significantly advance their professional presence and influence in the field of midwifery through a 6-semester Advances in Midwifery project. Students are challenged to address a real-world issue or question in the field of midwifery or women's health, and are closely mentored by a doctoral committee from problem identification, through project design, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination. During each stage, students produce a professional written product, ranging from review articles, grant proposals, research papers, to public presentations. By the completion of the program, students will produce at least two works for submission to a peer-reviewed venue.
