MASTER OF EDUCATION – SPECIAL EDUCATION
The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Special Education program is offered in an online format and may also be offered at locations in Indiana. The program is designed for practicing classroom teachers seeking an advanced degree in special education. Candidates will complete a 33 credit hour M.Ed. program which aligns to the Council of Exceptional Children’s standards for serving special needs population. Courses are designed to provide participants with methods and materials to serve special needs students through mild and moderate intervention. Prior to applying to the program, candidates are responsible for being knowledgeable of the licensure requirements of their state and whether or not the major they’ve selected will satisfy the requirements of the state for which the candidate may be seeking additional licensure.
Accreditation
The Professional Education Unit at Indiana Wesleyan University is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), 2010 Massachusetts Ave. N.W., Suite 500, Washington, DC 20036 (202-466-7496), the organization responsible for professional accreditation of teacher education. The Master of Education program may be completed online, or onsite (with online components) at various locations in Indiana and Ohio.
