Program Description:

From this foundation has emerged an educational environment renowned for its personalized attention to students. The MSN: Nurse Education track is a 42-credit, graduate-level program that prepares registered nurses with a BSN to assume advanced roles as faculty in higher education; educators in health care organizations; educators in continuing education settings; and patient, family and community educators. Graduates of the program are prepared to continue on to doctoral study and are eligible to apply for national certification. This program is designed to accommodate the schedule and needs of working nurses, allowing them to earn their MSN in Education in about two years while working full-time. Classes meet one full day per week - on the same day of the week for the duration of the program - allowing for advance planning and scheduling. Students also attend two on-campus residencies during the course of their degree program. The residencies provide opportunities to meet and work directly with our faculty Nurse Education related competencies. The program consists of 42 credits. Nine of these credits are specifically focused on the development of advanced clinical proficiency. Courses are delivered via in-class, hands-on learning, as well as a hybrid format which incorporates some online instruction. The MSN: Executive Leadership Track is one of Felician’s newest degree programs and has an anticipated start date of September, 2011. The program focuses on preparing nurse administrators in key areas such as risk management; administrative practices and principles; patient quality and safety initiatives; and preparation for magnet status. Placing emphases on evidence-based practice and transformational leadership, the MSN: Executive program develops project management, financial planning, informatics, and technological skills. Open to licensed nurses with a bachelor degree, The program is designed to provide nurses with a combination of advanced nursing and healthcare related business skills, helping them to advance into administrative and leadership roles within healthcare delivery. Classes meet one evening per week, blending web-based teaching with traditional classroom instruction. Students will complete one eight-week course at a time. The 36-credit program includes capstone practicum experiences, and can be completed in approximately two years. The Master of Science in Nursing : Nurse Practitioner program at Felician College is designed to educate registered nurses to become competent, committed and caring advanced practice nurses. The focus of the program is delivering health care to vulnerable, underserved populations in primary health care settings. Our faculty is committed to meeting the learning needs of a diverse student population, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration, and promoting global understanding and international sharing of knowledge. The program is taught online by Felician College faculty who are experienced practitioners in the forefront of their fields. The online coursework allows for convenience and flexibility. Students in the Master of Science in Nursing – Nurse Practitioner program have the opportunity to choose from two tracks, Adult and Family Practitioner. Students in the Family Nurse Practitioner Track will need to complete 780 hours of practicum focused on primary care. Those pursuing the Adult Nurse Practitioner Track will need to complete 600 hours. Courses are taught on a trimester schedule with three separate 12-week terms per academic year. Terms start in September, January and April. Courses run for one term and students generally take two courses per term. New students may begin the program at the start of any trimester term. Post-Master's Online - Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner The post-master’s certificate curriculum prepares nurses with a master’s degree in nursing for primary care practice as a family or adult nurse practitioner. A post-master’s certificate is awarded after successful completion of the program.
