The MA in Creative Writing and Literature for Educators is the first graduate program in the nation to focus on the needs of high school teachers who teach both creative writing and literature. The program combines a 3-day weekend residency with on-line coursework.
Our unique program - the first and only one in North America - is designed for middle - and high-school teachers, and gives you the perfect mix of an MFA in Creative Writing and a traditional MA in English Literature, in a single well-coordinated package.
Our MA is a low-residency program, combining a 3-day weekend residency with seven 4-credit online courses. All our online coursework is asynchronous: you can work from anywhere, at any time of day that suits your schedule. You’ll never have to compromise your day job! And you can easily finish in less than two years. Not to mention: our tuition is at a deeply discounted special rate for educators.
The residency, normally the last weekend in June, brings you to our gorgeous campus in Madison, New Jersey—a short train ride from New York City—for workshops, readings, and in-person previews of the online courses. You’ll meet our faculty and fellow students from near and far, and spend time with a distinguished Visiting Writer (last year, 2015, it was Marie Howe, Poet Laureate of the State of New York). Our residency gets rave reviews year after year, and you can come back as many times as you like.
