Program Description:

The Duke Environmental Leadership Master of Environmental Management (DEL-MEM) is a two-year, 30-credit program designed for mid-career environmental professionals with a minimum of five years environmental-related experience with evidence of leadership potential. The DEL-MEM includes an assortment of course options, driven by a broad perspective of interdisciplinary themes, strategic approaches to environmental management, communication and effective leadership. As an environmental leader, your organization looks to you for vision - a vision to plan for change. To keep pace with the complexity of environmental issues, you need to be outfitted with the best tools to meet these challenges. The DEL-MEM offers a rigorous online and on-campus program that allows you to add depth to your current skills, blend theory with practical experience, and maintain a commitment to your employer and family.

The program melds the Nicholas School's multidisciplinary environmental curriculum with the renowned "place and space" (TM) model of the Fuqua School of Business. This model capitalizes on the advantages of both online and traditional learning models and is comprised of courses taught through written and electronic formats, case studies, and short intensive place-based sessions."Place" is the face-to-face component that gives participants the opportunity to experience the campus, meet fellow students, develop leadership skills, and interact with faculty. These short sessions are held at the Nicholas School of the Environment (the required Leadership Module is held in Washington DC). Students are required to attend these five short place-based sessions over the course of two years, developed with the working professional in mind. Our "space" (or online) portion comprises the bulk of the learning experience and uses advanced interactive technologies to complement the face-to-face sessions.
