Program Description:

While the growing aging population will present challenges for our society, opportunities arise for leaders to improve the care of the aging population. The Gerontology Track will teach you the skills to develop a comprehensive understanding of the science of social policy and gerontological research, mental health issues of the aging, long-term care administration and related ethical issues, with the goal of assisting senior citizens and their families through the aging process. The Gerontology Track has wide applications in counseling, physical therapy, assisted living, institutional or in-home care, and nutrition and wellness, among other areas.

The Master of Human Services Gerontology Track program will explore the social, mental health and family issues specific to older adults and an aging population. Upon completion of the program, students will have a greater understanding of:

  • The science of social policy and gerontological research
  • Mental health issues associated with aging
  • Long-term care administration
  • Ethical issues and ministry opportunities within communities

Eligibility Requirements:

Undergraduate G.P.A. of 2.8 or higher. Students must submit an application and transcripts for review prior to full admission by the graduate college. Depending upon the student's education and experience, there may be pre-requisites for admission.
