Master of Education - Literacy
Prepare to instill a love of reading, writing and the English language with the online Master of Education in Literacy from Concordia University, Nebraska, accredited by NCATE. In this program, you can choose either a reading specialist endorsement or a Reading and ESL/ELL endorsement. The reading specialist endorsement can hone your skills in fostering reading and writing skills, while the additional ESL/ELL endorsement can help you learn to bridge the language gap for students whose native language is not English.
Throughout the M.Ed. in Literacy, you will study science and theories of the English language, including phonology, morphology, syntax, discourse and cross-linguistic differences. You will also develop an understanding of the cultural, linguistic, ethnic and academic diversity of literacy learners, in order to develop inclusive and effective language learning practices. With your knowledge of language development, you can employ techniques for integrating the English language into students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing.
After completing the online Master of Education in Literacy, you could pursue work as a reading specialist, reading coach or reading curriculum specialist. You could also work with students at any age and from varying backgrounds as they learn the English language.
