Program Description:

The field of instructional design (ID) and educational technology is constantly evolving. As a result, employers in education (K-12 and higher education), businesses, and health care settings are continuously seeking employees able to keep up. Our Instructional Design Certificate program prepares students to meet this demand.

Through a comprehensive understanding of the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative courses and training programs, graduates will be ready to lead educational and corporate institutions into the future.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that job growth in the area of instructional design is expected to increase seven percent over the next seven years and a wide range of careers are available within the field, including:

Upon completion of the Instructional Design Certificate program graduates should be proficient in the following key areas:

    Designing conditions for learning by applying principles of instructional systems design, message design, instructional strategies, and learner characteristics.
    Developing instructional materials and experiences using print, audiovisual, computer-based, and integrated technologies.
    Implementing processes and resources for learning by applying principles and theories of media utilization, diffusion, implementation, and policy-making.
    Managing, planning, organizing, coordinating, and supervising instructional technology by applying principles of project, resource, delivery system, and information management.
    Evaluating the adequacy of instruction and learning by applying principles of problem analysis, criterion-referenced measurement, formative and summative evaluation, and long-range planning.
