The Capella Master’s in Clinical Counseling program lays the foundation for you to make a difference for clients with emotional or mental health difficulties. Our curriculum provides an education focused on the principles of clinical psychology as applied to multiple specializations in a clinical, research, or education/academic capacity. The coursework is designed to also prepare you for further graduate work toward a PhD or PsyD.

Online coursework gives you the fundamentals of clinical assessment, counseling interventions, psychological testing, research methods, and ethics and diversity. Face-to-face residencies and supervised clinical experience will equip you to understand and apply psychological theory in real-world situations.

Your Master’s in Clinical Counseling program integrates: online coursework, residency, and 600 hours of field work that align with industry standards. Each facet of your education builds on the others to take you through your program and to your goal of a master’s degree.

With a Master's in Clinical Counseling from Capella, you'll learn how to counsel clients using scientifically-based psychological theories, and apply counseling psychology theory and research in interventions and decision-making. You'll also learn to assess clients' strengths and weaknesses through psychological testing and effectively communicate psychological concepts.
