Online NYS School Building and District Leader

The Canisius College Educational Leadership program has three sequential segments, customized to meet your career goals. Complete one certificate, two, or earn the entire master’s degree. Applicants must have NYS Professional Certification to earn NYS SBL or SDL Certification.  

NYS School Building Leader Certification, fully online - 26 credit hours

Designed for experienced teachers to become Pre K–12 headmasters, principals, assistant principals, and school directors. Learn to build a curriculum, to supervise, mentor, and peer-coach. This demanding yet rewarding career takes rigorous preparation, and we give you the academic background and experience necessary to conquer the task head-on.

NYS School District Leader Certification, fully online – take an additional 6 credit hours and earn NYS SDL Certification. After completing our school building leader program, it takes just two additional courses to complete this program. You’ll learn supervision skills needed for effective administration and develop an understanding of business administration within the educational system. If you have already earned NYS SBL Certification at another institution it is possible to take just the NYS SDL Certification Courses.

Earning a master’s degree in educational leadership requires only three additional, fully online, courses.

Once you’ve completed our school district leader program, earning a master’s degree in educational leadership requires only three additional courses. No thesis is required. The Master’s Program has four concentration tracks: Emerging Issues in Educational Leadership • Education Technologies and Emerging Media • Athletics Administration • Instructional Leadership
