Degrees Offered:

MA in Transformative Leadership

Format: Online

Program Description:

The Transformative Leadership (TLD) MA is a uniquely innovative distance-learning program that integrates extensive practical skills with deep self-reflection and an emphasis on creative action in the world.

The program prepares students to embody leadership and mobilize their creativity in many different ways–whether in organizations, social movements, or in a range of activities requiring personal initiative and dedication to making a difference. Drawing on leading-edge research, the arts, and the great spiritual traditions, the program offers students the opportunity and tools to reflect on what really matters, explore how to lead a more meaningful life, and develop the skills and wisdom to take action in the world. Our students gain the ability to actively create their leadership style, assess their strengths and weaknesses, engage in an ongoing process of learning and development, and articulate their leadership philosophy.

About the Program

Our two-year progam is offered in an online format, benefiting from 20 years of experiences with leading-edge online instruction. The faculty are internationally known authors, researchers, consultants, and social change activists. Faculty and students create a rich and supportive online learning community; in addition, student and faculty gather twice a year for a five-day intensive learning experience, held in a comfortable retreat center in the San Francisco Bay Area.

In the final semester, students design, implement, and assess their Capstone Action Project, which means putting into action integrative theory, reflection, and experiences learned during their two years in the program.

Our alumni work in a wide variety of leadership positions, including:

  • Directors and assistant directors for private, nonprofit, art, academic, and governmental organizations
  • Chief information officers and chief marketing officers for both private and nonprofit organizations
  • Consultants in transformative leadership and communication
  • Entrepreneurs
  • College professors
  • Social activists.
