Ball State University’s master of arts in education in elementary education is one of the most customizable MAE’s in elementary education programs in the country because of its many focus and specialty area options. Students can choose from three elementary education focus areas, including:

•             early childhood education

•             enhanced teaching practices

•             and reading and literacy instruction

Six specialty areas outside of elementary education are also available, including:

•             Autism

•             Computer education for teachers

•             Gifted and talented education

•             Human development and learning

•             Middle school education

•             Response to intervention

All programs are offered 100 percent online. The curriculum includes a sequence and timeline of classes that make it possible for students to finish in four semesters. Ball State professors have taught in elementary classrooms and designed their courses with professionals in elementary education in mind.

The class average is around 20 students and consists of elementary school teachers from across the country. Courses are designed to have immediate applicability to the classrooms. So teachers can take what they learn in the online classroom one day and use it in their classroom the next day.
