If you’re ready to take on a new challenge as an educator, Virginia’s special education students need you. Averett University can help you prepare to earn your Special Education Endorsement with our 20-month Master of Education in Special Education. This 20-month program for current teachers, offered online through our Graduate and Professional Studies program, teaches the instructional, assessment, and behavior management skills you need to help students with disabilities or special needs reach their full potential. Throughout the course, you’ll take on field-based coaching sessions with skilled special education teachers. And, because Averett University understands what educators need, this program is offered in an accelerated format with course breaks that accommodate your busy schedule. Graduates of this online Master of Education degree program should be equipped to assess special-needs students and apply appropriate instructional strategies to help them meet educational goals. Course topics in this program include: Child development and child psychology Effective student assessment methods Evaluating, designing, and implementing curriculum for students of varying abilities Integrating teaching and technology for disabled students Developing support teams for special-needs learners Classroom and behavior management You will also engage in critical analysis of current research in special education and pursue in-person coached field experiences at local schools. The M.Ed. in Special Education for teachers seeking a Virginia Endorsement is presented in an accelerated, cohort-based format.
