M.Ed. - Administration and Supervision
Today’s schools need leaders who can create an effective environment for excellence. Experienced Virginia teachers who want to prepare to earn a School Administrator endorsement can earn a Master of Education with a Virginia Endorsement in Administration and Supervision (M.Ed.) at Averett University.
Our online 22-month M.Ed. program, offered through our Graduate and Professional Studies program, teaches critical managerial and administrative skills for building community and a coherent, school-wide instructional plan. Featuring hands-on internships with local master administrators, this program is formatted to fit with an educator’s busy schedule.
Graduates of this online Master of Education degree program should be prepared to manage people, resources, and processes within K-12 schools to support effective instructional strategies.
Course topics in this program include:
Assessing and administering curriculum programs
Hiring, training, and motivating faculty and staff
Integrating technology into teaching and administration
Finance and policy for school administrators
Community development within schools and with other local organizations
Research methods and critical analysis of educational research is also emphasized. Additionally, students undertake internship experiences with current master administrators. Averett’s faculty members, all of whom have first-hand experience in schools, provide coaching throughout the program.
The M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision at Averett is presented in an accelerated, cohort-based format. This means that a group of students advance through each course in the program in six to ten week blocks, allowing for intensive study of each concept.
Class sizes are small, ensuring that students have the opportunity to contribute to discussions and projects, and allowing for personal attention from the instructor.
