Program Description:

This Master of Science program is ideal for students who seek to enhance their current science knowledge with graduate level medical science classes and MCAT preparation to increase their competitiveness for health professional school admissions or other medical science careers. 

The Biomedical Science for Pre-Health Professions program is located at the Bowman Gray Center for Medical Education (BGCME) in Wake Forest Innovation Quarter in downtown Winston-Salem. The BGCME is also home to the Wake Forest School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences’ Biomedical Sciences graduate programs. All courses are part of the Graduate School curriculum and taught by research and clinical faculty of the School of Medicine.

Our curriculum will aid students who have already completed medical school prerequisites and earned a baccalaureate degree and is designed to enhance students’ current science knowledge with graduate level medical science classes and MCAT preparation to increase their competitiveness for health professional school admissions or other medical science careers. Students in this program usually graduate within 12-24 months.

Four Degree Path Options:

  • Thesis: 24 hours of coursework, 6 hours of research, original research project of publishable quality with written thesis and oral exam.
  • Internship: minimum of 24 hours of coursework and 6 hours of research internship totaling 30 credit hours, written summary of internship experience.
  • Project: minimum of 24 hours of coursework and 6 hours of research totaling 30 credit hours, written review of research topic or capstone project.
  • Coursework-Only: 36 hours of coursework.
