Program Description:

The Ed.M. program in Social Studies Education is designed for people who are currently teaching or who wish to teach in elementary or secondary schools. The program examines major issues in social studies education, as well as ways of enhancing classroom practice. In general, students with a baccalaureate degree in one of the social sciences or in elementary education, who already have or are pursing New York State certification, take a minimum of 18 credit hours in professional education courses and at least 9 credit hours at the graduate level in one or more of the following social science areas; history, political science, economics, geography, anthropology, or sociology.
